Alyce Ananda is a painter in the mountains of Virginia creating vibrant, earthy abstract oil paintings based on the colors, sounds, and light found in nature.

Rooted in the rhythms of the natural world, my paintings are not direct representations of nature, but rather internal expressions – impressions shaped by the emotional and sensory experiences nature evokes. In a time when our lives are in increasingly immersed in technology, screens, and artificial constructs, I find myself drawn to the quiet, often overlooked presence of the natural world. My work seeks to bridge the growing disconnect.

Whether it’s the glint of dappled light of an autumn forest floor, the hush of moss under foot,  the crash of distant waves, or coolness of twilight as the sky falls into dusk, I aim to translate those fleeting moments into visual form – moments that stir something visceral, grounding, and deeply human. My work seeks to honor and interpret that experience, offering a bridge back to the living world.

I work primarily in traditional oil on canvas, but many of my pieces begin with nature itself. Leaves, grasses, petals- collected and found are often embedded into the foundation layer of my canvases. These natural materials serve not only as elements, but as a way to physically weave the environment into the work, allowing nature to shape paintings from their beginning. My process is slow, intentional, and deeply sensory. A visual language of memory and feeling—paintings that invite reflection, connection, and presence.

I studied fine arts painting at Parsons School of Design and later moved to the mountains of Virginia. Surrounded by beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains and spending summers on the Eastern Shores of the Chesapeake, I have used my natural surroundings to inspire and create my work.
